Fucking Stressors

Published on: Friday, November 24, 2006 //

THE END....hehe joke.

Our Public Affairs class really ate my day. Biruin nyong buong araw akong naka formal attire for the presentation of our investigative reporting kaya naman as the leader kinakailangan ko namang isakripisyo ang ilang mga minor subjects in order to accomodate other priorities.

Naiinis din ako kanina, wala pa si Sir Marlan We really need to meet him pero nabalitaan kong nasa Seminar sya kasi nga we have to have register ourselves na para sa Order of the Knights of Rizal sa Baguio City. this Dec 17. Hmm quite excited kasi nga dagdag affiliation ko yun at saka experience din. Hahay nako stressor din tong scholar sa internet lab. Shout down na raw sila kaya baboo nlng sa inyo bago ko mapatay tong skalar na ito. Hehe ako nalang pala ang nandito..Hoi wait lang don't kill the lights!I should make love with my gf siguro to eliminate stress!

School again!

Published on: Wednesday, November 22, 2006 //

Waaaaaa..to be straight, I am not really prepared for the second sem. I don't even a complete note books for the subjects. Well, it is because of the kind of activity we have just finished (THE GUERILLA)

I could compare my performance when I was in first year college. Everything was properly organized. Studious. Always perfect on quizzes. But now, hmm not that excellent. Well, I am not saying that my mind is deteriorating in performance because I have many offers and opportunities today. It so happen that I am active in outside activities rather than in the school. That is why my minor subjects are now suffering (85% at least na ang grade ko ) di tulad noon na 90- 95 to hehe.

It is a matter of organizing of schedules but I don't think so if I can do it religiously. Anyway, I am still doing fine and I can even compete who you are. heheh Dare me. Try me. Shit me! Voila

How did we make it???

“Winning in the festival is not the ultimate goal of a filmmaker, it is the experience and the chance to be seen and heard with the message of the film” this is the inspiring words of the Alchemy of Vision and Light (AVL) head Rafael “Dax” CaƱedo to the finalists during their orientation last October 31.

As one of the filmmakers, I could see the excitement of the participants owing to the fact that most of them are first timers. That time, my mind was pre occupied with many questions about the films but I let it passed by. Our production group was just still on the state of amazement after we receive the info that our synopsis has selected.

Before the selection of the finalists, we were living in our dreams while hoping that we will be selected. I was always thinking positive telling my members to hold on and relax , even if, I once told myself that Mindanao Film Fest is impossible to us since we are not that prepare and I have recruited only 5 members (all students).

The requirement was to pass the synopsis of our story then AVL will select the finalists. Despite of my under estimation to myself, I still manage to follow up everything and shout to the school to help us pray. And finally God heard us.

Durian Cinema Productions is the name of our group. Presently, it has 7 members. I am the production head as well as the writer and the director. We were so glad because we are now moving towards our dream- to be seen on the big screen!

After the announcement, I and my film editor Neil John Luayon did not waste time to find resources for our film since we cannot provide everything. Our parents in the province did not even know that we personally fund the film. However, we did not spend money at that high amount because we improvise things. Instead buying for costumes, we use our old dresses; lamp shades instead the typical lights; pirated software for editing instead the original one.

“We all see filmmaking as a very expensive endeavor. But digital technology nowadays and new techniques makes it possible to shoot inexpensive but quality films,” said Dax Canedo, organizer of the Guerilla Filmmaking workshops.

The shooting period is the most challenging part. Since our story focuses on the life of a badjao, we did shooting in their community without considering that they might harm us. But we were stand corrected; they are indeed harmless and hospitable.

Two different worlds bonded together. We ate with them, deal with them and have fun with their children. As part of the film, we have to take down notes the translation of our dialogues since there are times that we really have to use their language as medium.
On the technical side, we were so blessed because the Kabataan News Network Davao Bureau manager Rodulph Alama let us use the equipment because eventually, as reporter of the network I am also tasked to have documentary story about filmmaking.

It was a big challenge to us especially in the editing period. Our classmates thought that we will be funding a professional editor in the shop but the truth is, we only did it in a small topsy-turvy room of our editor who is still studying editing software like Adobe premiere. With 256 MB RAM, the computer cannot run well and hang by and by. However, we did not lose hope. After 3 sleepless nights, at last we finished our 20 minute short film.

“There is nothing impossible as long as we work hard with the thing that seemingly impossible” said Cameraman Lloyd Revilla.

The lesson that I have learned is that the never stop dreaming. I live before thinking that filmmaking (Film Festival) is really an impossible field for the man who belongs to a poor family like me.

This December 4-10, the manifestation of our dreams will be at hand- to be seen on the big screen with the crawling names in the credits

It is not the Durian Cinema who feel like us but also the other group which composes of mostly students. The same

Chapter III (Snapshots)

Chapter II (The Key Filmmakers)

Published on: Sunday, November 12, 2006 // ,

To be an independent filmmaker is really a challenging field. A single filmmaker cannot work if he/she does not have 3-6 members to build up a production group.

Every member must have an extra knowledge in filmmaking/. Because guerilla means multi tasking! And it makes the job challenging. Believe it's really fun. (Warning: stressor)

At this moment we are in the 60% production level. We are hoping to finish the editing this night.
So, I would like to present the members of the production who are the driving force of the team.
They are Mark Revilla, Neil Luayon, MarK Caintic and Honey Culaba. These people ( look at the pix from mark-honey) who helped me to realize our dreams; who helped to give life to Durian Cinema.
Winning in the festival is not important, it is the experience and the feeling to be seen on big screen. The laughters, shouts and applause of the spectators are enough to pay the efforts we have made.

As of now, we are waiting for the candle of time to be melt until dec. 4. And the dream would become true!

Meanwhile, we are still looking for a passionate, hardworking and innovative indie filmmakers to join our guild while exploring .

Filmmaking chapter 1 (Durian Cinema)

Published on: Wednesday, November 08, 2006 // ,

Yesterday,we have just finished shooting our 20 minute film. It was really an exhausting task but the team was very alive becasue of the bonding and the moments we've shared. Enjoy- is the right term.

Since our story focuses on the life of a a badjao, we have to have an exact location where badjao people migrate. Matina Aplaya is the right place to be. The location is too far from the city and we really spent our allowance for transpo and food. Anyway, this is guerilla filmmaking.

I am very happy that we finish it because I could see weariness on my members' faces. But, I really appreciate their support in the film knowing that I am the actor, writer and the director and I consider my self as executive producer since I spent a lot (fees to our badjao talents). Well, since this is my film, all I need is to sacrifice...anything!

Presently, our problem is the editing. At this moment, I am looking an hardisk where the captured clips will be saved. But, I should have to be optimistic. Everything will be alright soon. This is because, I almost reach my dream, to be a filmmaker,so I should feel that I belong to the reachers of success.

Ohh my God, I am so excited with the show. I can't wait to see my face on cinemas. And of course, wheter the result is good or so so, I would be so proud to Durian Cinema Productions (my family) for a great job and opportunity to see my name on TV and theatres that I wrote and directed that kind of unique story of mine...More stories/pix ahead!
